Welcome to My Walk a Mile Participant Page!
Walk a Mile is much more than just a fundraiser. By situating men and boys in direct opposition to violence against women, YWCA is strategically creating a community-wide ecosystem that promotes healthy peer-group relationships, attitudes, and beliefs. By encouraging men to stand and walk together in increasing numbers, year after year, YWCA is demonstrating that this is a community united to stop the actions or courses of conduct that breed gender-based violence.
I’m walking because I know that YWCA’s Sara McKnight Transitional Living Center creates generational opportunity for women and children escaping violence. I’ve seen first-hand the difference made in their lives. But I’m also walking to say as clearly as I can that violence against women is intolerable. Every dollar you give to my campaign is a reaffirmation of that.
Most importantly, each one of you that joins my team, walks in heels with me, and runs the risk of rolling your ankle is saying the same thing. The more of us that say it together, the more thoroughly we can root the violence out of our communities. So please, give what you can; join my team; help me raise these essential funds to support the continued operation of the TLC; and send the message as clearly as possible, that we are walking because we will no longer stand for domestic violence.
